Locating GNSS interferences using Artificial Intelligence
INDALOS AKUT A Universal System for Monitoring, Detection, Characterization, and Localization of GNSS Cyber Attacks
The INDALOS AKUT project aims to develop a universal system for monitoring, detecting, characterizing, and localizing GNSS interference. It builds upon the existing INDALOS system and aims to elevate it. The project will create a universal architecture that integrates existing GNSS data sources with new cost-efficient sensors, enabling real-time processing and analysis.
GNSS services are essential for numerous security-critical applications, such as energy supply, telecommunications, navigation, and military operations. GNSS jamming and other interference pose an increasing threat to the stability of these systems. INDALOS AKUT offers an innovative solution by leveraging data from existing networks, complemented by new sensors. Centralized processing is conducted via a server equipped with AI-powered algorithms and an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), streamlining both the detection and visualization of interference.
The project is designed to use existing GNSS networks efficiently to provide cost-effective protection for critical infrastructure. A diverse range of sensors ensures precise detection and localization of disruptions. The system integrates various sensors, including commercial GNSS base stations, cost-efficient “low-cost” receivers, and specialized high-end GNSS receivers. A key focus is the implementation of reliable real-time communication to enable swift responses to interference.
A unique feature of the project is its universal architecture, which can be tailored to the needs of diverse user groups, including telecommunication providers, authorities, and the military. By employing state-of-the-art AI technologies, the system ensures accurate analysis of large datasets, minimizing false alarms and accelerating decision-making processes.
The project not only enhances the protection of Austria’s infrastructure but also contributes significantly to the development of NAVWAR capabilities, economic defense, and resilience against cyber threats. It is environmentally and socially neutral, as it builds on existing infrastructures to increase efficiency.
The project was partly funded within the KIRAS program by the österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH (FFG), Vienna and financed by the Austrian Bundesministerium für Finanzen (BMF).
